Umbrellas are really useful, don’t you think? They can keep you from getting soaked in the heavy downpours. They can also keep you from burning your skin in the blazing heat of the sun. With a push of a button, they open and close, creating a mini-sanctuary for you and a friend or two. They’re also very convenient because they don’t take up much space and they’re easy to bring anywhere.
The thing about umbrellas is that they’re very easy to forget. You put the umbrella down here, you put it down there, you run off to attend to a couple of things, and then you leave. You forget that you’ve left your umbrella by the corner or by the stowage area. It’s fascinating how easy it is to forget your umbrella.

The sole reason for you forgetting that you brought your umbrella is that you didn’t need it when you were leaving. That’s the sadness of umbrellas: they’re forgotten when the rain stops pouring or when the sun stops shining.
